Inspect a machine and record an incident

The Machines demonstration lets you follow one host from inventory through observed findings and incident work. Open the machine-level preview. Its sample hosts are fictional; the interface does not connect to a host that you enter yourself.

Select the machine first#

Choose a sample host and confirm its identity in the view before reading counters or opening an incident. The demonstration includes available observations and an unavailable-host case. An unavailable machine remains selectable so the absence of data can be examined.

For an available host, review inventory and current observations together. Capacity describes installed resources; utilization describes activity during the observation. Neither, by itself, establishes the physical health of the machine.

Inspect a finding#

Open an observed condition and read its source, observation time, description and recommended checks. Determine whether the data is current enough for the decision you are considering. A finding with an older observation retains that time even after you interact with it.

The Simulate inspection control records a demonstration action. It does not refresh the sample measurements, advance their observation sequence or contact equipment. Use it to inspect the workflow history rather than to test a real observer.

Open an incident#

Choose Open an incident for a finding. Add a short fictional operator note and select Create incident. The resulting record retains the selected host, finding and source observation, together with the note.

The demonstration avoids creating another open incident for the same host and finding. If a repeated request reports an existing incident, open that record instead of assuming the first request was lost.

Resolve the simulated incident when you have finished examining the workflow. Resolution changes the local incident state; it does not repair a machine or certify that its observed condition has disappeared. Sample incidents supplied with the demonstration may be read-only; only the local incidents created through the demo can be resolved there.

Export and reset#

Use Export machine snapshot to download the sample observations and available local demonstration records. Review the export before sharing it, especially if you entered a note. It is a sample record, not a diagnostic capture from your own host.

The demo's reset control clears its saved local workflow state. Export anything you need first. Resetting does not change the fixed source samples or clear unrelated websites' storage.

Investigate an unavailable host#

Select the unavailable sample and read the source-connection explanation. Missing counters and history remain missing; another host's readings are not substituted. In a connected evaluation, use that distinction to decide whether you need to investigate the machine, its observer or the observation path. See Observations and troubleshooting.
